Balancing Social Life: Can You Prioritize Family and Friends’ Needs Over Socializing?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to stay away from family and friends (just attend to their needs when and where required) and not socialize much?

Bismillaah

A: This is not correct. The Hadith has commanded that one join ties with his family. Therefore, one should associate with his family and relatives and be concerned about their worldly and Deeni welfare. As far as friends are concerned, one does not need to show the same regard as one shows to one’s family. However, if they are in need of you assistance or advice, then if you are able to, you should assist them.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
