Can You Avoid Marriage Due to Past Sins and Fear of Betrayal?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to not marry citing the reason as having done grave sins in past and fearing that your spouse might find out about it someday and feel betrayed and cheated upon?

Bismillaah

A: This is against the Sunnah. One should sincerely repent for his past sins and thereafter make nikaah. Through making nikaah, one will safeguard oneself from committing sins in the future.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
