Can Repentance Save a Muslim from Execution for Insulting the Prophet?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Recently I was going through a fatwa on a website. The scholar said that if a Muslim woman or man insults the Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam), if they repent their repentance will be accepted but the execution or hanging will still be carried out. But other scholars say that the person will not be executed if he or she repents sincerely. What is the correct opinion? I am confused.

Bismillaah

A: All these masaa’il refer to an Islamic state.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
