Help! My Sister’s Ex is Forcing Her to Choose Between Him and Her Current Partner

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My sister used to like a guy five years ago but due to some reason they both separated. In between these 5 years there came a religious boy in her life who was her school classmate. From seven days that 1st boy has come and is forcing her to accept him otherwise he would kill himself. He asked her to sware to Allah that she doesn’t like other boy and my swore because of his forcing. Please help me. What should she do and what must be the kaffara for this?

Bismillaah

A: Any type of premarital love relationship is forbidden. The relationship that she had in the past is forbidden and if she has a love relationship with this person then this is also impermissible. She should first make taubah for this. If he was a religious person he would not have spoken to her so freely nor would he have ever thought of killing himself. This person is totally irreligious.

The kaffarah of breaking an oath is feeding ten poor people two meals each, or giving each one of them the equivalent of sadaqatul fitr, or providing clothes to each one of them.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
