Sunnah of Distributing and Throwing Dates at Nikaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Is it Sunnah to distribute dates after a nikaah?

2. Is it Sunnah to throw theses dates at the people after a nikaah?

Bismillaah

A:

1. This practice is established in the Hadith. However, it is not confined to dates.

2. Both ways are permissible and established; distributing the dates by hand or throwing it towards the people. However, in the case one throws the dates, one should ensure that one does not hurt any person, the sanctity of the Musjid is not violated and the musjid is not soiled.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
