Difference between Hadith and Sunnah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Please explain to me in detail and give me a definition of these both things, 1- Hadith, 2- Sunnat.

Bismillaah

A: According to the Fuqahaa when the word Sunnah is used, it refers to the statements of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam), his practices and practices he had approved of, similarly it also refers to the statements of the sahabah and their practices and when the word Hadeeth is used, it only refers to the statements of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wassallam).

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

لسنة تطلق على قول الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وفعله وسكوته وعلى اقوال الصحابة وافعالهم والحديث يطلق على قول الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم خاصة (نور الأنوار ص175)
