Giving food in sadaqah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. If we cook at home for sadaqa, is it permissible to take some for house and family?

2. Can we eat sadaqah?

Bismillaah

A: If you intend to give some food you have cooked from your wealth to the poor as sadaqah, then it will only be sadaqah once it is given to the poor. Before it is given to the poor, the food will not become sadaqah and it will be permissible for you to consume the food.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
