My Husband Said Talaq Three Times, But Was It Valid?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: There was a time when my husband said the word talaq three times in two different majlises. Three times each he didn’t intend talaq nor was indicating to it. He was just fooling around with Allah’s Deen. I have explained the whole sinario to another mufti where he replied if he indicated talaq only then it is valid ie acc to his answer talaq wasn’t issued. I being the wife and the husband both are happy with each other and both know within ourselves know that this talaq wasn’t directly or indirectly indicated towards. I for some reason still have fear in my heart that yes we have been told tht talaaq isn’t issued but in my mind I think what if it is, then I’d be in sin my whole life every second I spend with him.

Bismillaah

A: The three talaaqs are valid and the nikah has terminated. It is no longer permissible for you both to live together.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
