Q: I live in a country (Saudi Arabia) where medical facilities are very expensive without insurance. My employer has provided me medical insurance but it is not from good company. Can I buy medical insurance myself? One Dr Consultation is 300 riyal where as medical insurance from best company for whole year is only 750 riyal and my salary is only 4000 riyal. And also I’m going through an illness from long time. Please guide.
A: In principle, the insurance system has got elements of riba and qimaar. Hence, it is not permissible.
