Traveling without a Mahram: My Brother’s Wedding Dilemma

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Can I travel without a mahram to a different country for my brother’s wedding? My husband can’t go and he won’t let me go without a mahram. If he has already said it to me once and I still have to go, then will he be sinning for letting me go? Won’t it be my decision if I want to go or not to go? Is he allowed to force me to do something?

Bismillaah

A: It is not permissible for you to travel without a mahram for the distance of 78km or more.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
