Understanding Divorce in Islam: Can You Get Back Together After Multiple Divorces?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My husband had given me one divorce and then some months later he gave me one more on the afternoon and a second one the next morning. I was unaware that this made it a final divorce I pushed for three because I thought that it was a chance for us to come back if we wanted to. The imam told me that because between the second and third divorce there was no reconciliation that it was only counted as one which in total was 2. He said you can not divorce someone that’s already divorced. Please clarify and explain in full. Also can husband and wife get back in anyway?

Bismillaah

A: If your husband has issued all three talaaqs, then all three are valid and the nikaah has terminated. It is no longer permissible for you both to live together.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
