Aqeeqa: Can a Husband Perform it for his Wife?

Q: Aqeeqa should be done by parents. If parents are poor and husband wants to do wife’s aqeeqa, is he allowed to do so? A wife whose aqeeqa has been done by husband is she allowed to eat or keep that meat for herself? What will be the procedure of her aqeeqah? Is it a must for her to shave her hair completely? Please answer as soon as possible. Can you answer according to Imam Shafi?

A:

1. It is permissible.

2. It is permissible for her and her family to eat from the aqeeqa meat.

3. She should not shave her hair. It is not permissible for her to shave her hair.
