Reciting the transliteration of the Qur’an

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. I recite Qur’an but can’t read Arabic but I look at other languages when I pronounce. I use transliteration when I recite Qur’an.

2. Did Rasulullah know how to read Qur’an because people say he did not write or read.

Bismillaah

A:

1. No. The recitation of the Qur’aan has to be in Arabic.

2. Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) knew the Qur’aan by memory. He did not need to look into the Qur’aan to recite.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
