Masbooq joining the Salaah after one rakaat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Please provide the correct procedure to be followed when missing one rakaat in a four rakaat Salaah behind the Imaam.

2. If a person misses one rakaat with Jamaat,  when starting in the second rakaat does one start with Thanaa as well as reading Thanaa when one stands
up to complete the missed rakaats?

Bismillaah

A:

1. The masbooq (latecomer) will not make salaam with the Imaam at the end of the Salaah, rather he will stand up to complete his missed rakaat. He will recite the thana, taawwuz, tasmiyah, Surah Faatiha and a Surah and thereafter go into ruku. After completing the ruku and sajda, he will sit in qa’da. In qa’da he will recite the tashahhud, durood-e-ebrahim, dua and thereafter make salaam and complete the Salaah.

2. One will not recite thana when one joins the Imaam in the second rakaat. Rather, one will recite the thana when one stands up to complete the missed rakaat.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
