Moving into a Home Previously Owned by a Non-Muslim: Any Specific Precautions?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What should we do when moving into a new home in which a non-Muslim (hindu) lived? Should anything specific be read? Please give daleel.

Bismillaah

A: A place that had been preoccupied with evil, filth and dirt should be cleansed thoroughly, washed out and the name of Allah be taken in abundance and in all the rooms the recitation of the Qur’aan Shareef should be made. The first 3 verses of Surah Baqarah and the last 3 verses are very effective. Daily recitation of the Qur’aan is very beneficial with some zikr and some du`aa.
