Is it Haram to Wear Nike Shoes?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I’ve heard Nike is haram, but with regards to their shoes, I am putting them on my feet which is disrespect to the fake God just like if I were to do it with Allah it would be very disrespectful. Then I don’t believe that Nike is god I just like their products. Finally, if in fact this doesn’t matter and it is still haram would it be sufficient to deface the logo of the Nike products I have in order to wear them?

Bismillaah

A: We are commanded in Shariah to refrain from emulating the kuffaar and adopting their fashions and ways. Since the kuffar subscribe to these false and kufr beliefs, through a Muslim wearing these clothing with logos which have connotations of kufr, he will invariably be resembling them in their dressing. Hence one should totally refrain from wearing these types of clothing, shoes etc. However if you remove the logo, it will be permissible for you to wear it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
