Is it necessary to have a source of income to get married?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it necessary to have a source of income to get married? If yes, then what if one does not earn and is involved in adultery of eyes, hands, ears, etc.? Should he marry or first earn and then give proposal for marriage as is the tradition in India?

Bismillaah

A: Though the principle is that one should marry if one is able to sustain the nikaah, however in the case where one cannot sustain the nikaah and the girl one gets married to and her family are prepared to accept the man in this condition (i.e. the girl will remain with her parents after marriage), then it will be permissible for one to get married to such a girl.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
