Married Without Permission, Cheated On, and Divorced: What Now?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: There is this guy I married without asking my parents permission. So I just made the relationship halaal. After a while I found out he is cheating on me. One day we had an argument on the phone and he said to me “talaaq”( divorce) three times. Next day he denied that he said divorce three times.

1. Can I take this as a divorce?

2. I don’t want to be with him. I would like to marry someone else. He won’t give me divorce now, what shall I do? Please I beg you to reply as soon as possible because I don’t want to be in a Haraam relationship anymore.

Bismillaah

A: The three talaaqs are valid and the nikaah has terminated.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
