Acceptable Names in Islam: Taariq, Shurahbil, Shurayh, Jurayj, Humaydah, Rumaysaa, and Humayraa

Q: I was wondering if the following names are acceptable:

– Taariq as in, Taariq bin Ziyaad.

– Shurahbil who was involved in the Conquest of Syria – is he a Sahabi?

– Shurayh

– Jurayj as in the one mentioned in a hadeeth.

Girls’

– Humaydah

– Rumaysaa (Umm Sulaym bint Milhaan?)

– Humayraa (Aa’isha (Radiyallahu Anhas) nickname?)

Please provide Arabic and meanings.

Bismillaah

A: Taariq generally refers to one who appears at night.

We do not know the meaning of Shurahbeel.

Shurayh – One whose heart is made compliant for the acceptance of the truth.

Jurayj – Container or bag.

Humaydah – One who praises

Rumaysaa – Procyon – name of a star

Humayraa  – Fair skinned.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
