Is Insulting the Prophet (S.A.W) Punishable by Death in Islam?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My question is, is there any aayah in the Quran or any hadith which says that the one who has insulted Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) or said something inappropriate is wajib-ul-qatl? Please explain.

Bismillaah

A: Insulting Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) is a major offense in Islam. Due to this issue being extremely sensitive, we suggest that you refer to your local Ulama’ and ask them to explain it to you.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
