Women coming to the Musjid for Jumuah Salaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: In Pakistan I don’t know why there is a bad cultural heritage that there is no separate place for women to pray in the Musjid. That’s why women don’t attend Jumuah prayer. That is really sad but In Karachi I haven’t seen a Musjid in which women pray Jummah. So in this circumstances can women pray zuhr instead of jumuah at home?

Bismillaah

A: Women are commanded to remain within the confines of their homes and not leave their homes without a valid reason. On account of the overwhelming and uncontrollable fitnah, women are discouraged from coming to the Musjid to attend the congregational Salaah, Jumuah Salaah and Eid Salaah. Jumuah Salaah is not compulsory upon women. Hence, women should perform zuhr Salaah on the day of Jumuah and not attend the Jumuah Salaah in the Musjid.
