Can a Long-Distance Relationship with a Muslim Partner be Made Halal via Skype Nikah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I’m in a relationship with a Muslim person and he is a Hanafi. We’ve been in and still are in a relationship and its been one year now and both of us know we won’t leave each other so now both of us want this relationship to become halaal now but the problem is he lives far and I live far. I want to know how will our nikaah be valid since we are not together and now we want to get married. My question is if we get married on Skype also we will have gawah with us and with nikaah documents. Will our nikaah be valid or not?

Bismillaah

A: All types of premarital relationships are haraam. If you wish to marry then speak to your elders. Don’t do anything without speaking to your elders.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
