Father-in-Law’s Inappropriate Behavior: Does it Affect the Validity of Nikkah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a father in-law hugs and touches his daughter in-law with clothes and kisses her hands prior to her refusal, is the nikkah valid with her husband?

Bismillaah

A: The Shari ruling in regard to hurmate musaahara is that if a person touches his daughter in law’s body (i.e directly without any veil in between) and lust is perceived by any of the two (by the father in law or daughter in law), then hurmate musaahara will be established and the nikaah of his son with his daughter in law will terminate.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
