Iddat for a woman whose husband went missing

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Husband of a woman is missing since a few months. Later she came to know that he has been killed but there is no proof that he has being killed. Will this woman have to sit in iddat upon merely hearing the news of her husband’s death when she is not sure about that?

Bismillaah

A: If the news is authentic and it has come through reliable sources then she must start off her iddat.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
