Eyebrow Plucking and Hair Care in Islam: What’s Allowed for Married Women?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I would like to know is plucking eyebrows haraam even for married women? Also is it premissible for a woman to dye or cut her hair?

Bismillaah

A:

1. Shaping or plucking the eyebrows is not permissible in Islam even for married women. The Hadith has cursed the one who shapes the eyebrows. However if the hair is overgrown, then removing the overgrown hair and making it look normal is permissible.

2. It is permissible to dye the hair. However one should avoid using black dye and one should refrain from imitating the colours and styles of the kuffaar.

3. In Shari’ah it is impermissible for women to cut or trim their hair. For further details refer to http://muftionline.co.za/node/1004
