Premarital relationships

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Me and my girl friend are in a relation from the past 5 years. We love each other but her parents are forcing her for marriage with another guy. They are torturing her for that marriage. They are doing it because I am poorer than her. My status is lower than her. But I work and I am capable of running my family. I am earning sufficient money but not up to her family standards. But the girl wants to marry me in any condition. We had romance many times in the past years, so she says that she can’t marry a guy other than me but her parents are still forcing her. What does Islam say about this? Can we do court marriage? Will it be jaaiz if we do court marriage? Can you help me about this? What her parents are doing is acceptable in Islam?

Bismillaah

A: All premarital relationships are haraam. Immediately break off all forms of communication. She should listen to her parents.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
