Hindu co-workers distributing food items on Diwali

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I want to ask you one question that today is Diwali in Hindu religion, so many Hindu people are working with me and today they bring sweets because today is Diwali and they are giving me sweets, so my question is can I eat these sweets?

Bismillaah

A: Precaution requires that these gifts should not be accepted but at least not eaten. Many a times they practise their pooja etc. on these items.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
