Can Threats of Divorce Hold Up in Court?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: A friend’s husband fought with her last night and said to her in anger that” if you ever talk to me again, I will divorce you” will the divorce be effective if she talks to him again?

Bismillaah

A: He said he will divorce if she speaks to him. Hence if she speaks to him the divorce will not take place unless he verbally issues it.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
