Providing a separate living area for the wife

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Does it say anywhere in Qur’an or Hadith that it is ok for a man to keep his wife with their parents and his brother? From my understanding he needs to give full ownership (meaning like the keys of the house showing full trust) of house to his wife and if he affords he should keep his wife in a separate place not in same with his brothers and parents.

Bismillaah

A: If it is going to create confusion and complication then it is better that he keeps his wife separate from the rest of the family.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
