Can Muslim Women Choose to Remain Unmarried?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible in Islam to remain unmarried for a girl? I mean I am twenty two years old. I don’t want to do nikaah to anyone. I want to live my life without marriage and also being in the ibaadat of Allah Ta’ala till my last breath. According to Islam, is it permissible?

Bismillaah

A: The sunnat of the ambiyaa is marriage. You cannot be more pious than the ambiyaa.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
