Misinforming people regarding one’s cast in nikaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Does it matter in nikaah paper in which someone intentionally writes his cast wrong? Does it effect the nikaah?

Bismillaah

A: Islam advocates honesty and truthfulness in all spheres of a person’s life. Speaking lies, deceiving and cheating have been severely condemned in Islam. Misinforming people and creating a false impression in the eyes of people regarding one’s social standing is deception. If one is a non-Arab, for him to pose as an Arab is wrong. Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said the one who deceives is not from us. However the nikaah will be valid.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
