Zakaat on items that one intends selling which were obtained for free

Q: I obtained items for free with the intention of resale. Despite the fact that I get them for free, must Zakaat still be paid on their current market value?

Bismillaah

A: Zakaat is not waajib on such items. Zakaat is waajib on items which are purchased with the intention of resale.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
