Combining Zohr, Asr, Maghrib, and Esha Prayers: What You Need to Know

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I need to know can we offer Zohr and asr, maghrib and esha prayer together? If yes than at what time?

Bismillaah

A: Each Salaah must be performed on its prescribed time. It is not permissible to join two Salaahs and perform them in one Salaah time (e.g. performing Zuhr and Asr in the Zuhr time or Maghrib and Esha in the Maghrib time). The Hadith explains that joining two Salaah and performing them in one Salaah time is a major sin. However if one is a musaafir, then while travelling if one is in a hurry then one may combine the Zuhr with the Asr by reading the Zuhr Salaah at the last part of the Zuhr time and once the Asr time enters one may immediately perform the Asr Salaah. The same could be done for Maghrib with Esha by reading the Maghrib Salaah at the last part of the Maghrib time and thereafter reading Esha as soon as the Esha time sets in. In this manner each Salaah will still be performed in its prescribed time.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
