From ‘Asad of Sin’ to ‘Asadullah’: My Journey to Seeking Allah’s Guidance

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My name is Asad. At times I feel depressed of my wrong and think that I am actually an “Asad of my nafs or an “Asad of sin.” However, I want to be an Asad of Allah Ta’ala. Please advise if it would be appropriate to change my name to ‘Asadullah.’

Bismillaah

A: There is no problem in this. More than changing the name you need to strengthen your determination and resolve. Just changing your name is not a solution.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
