Spending from joint account

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
A couple have a shared bank account (under one name) where they both receive government funding. Can a wife spend the money on others (i.e. give gifts) without the husband’s permission?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

In principle, the wife may spend her money from the shared account without the husband’s permission. She cannot spend her husband’s money without his permission.

And Allah knows best.
