Choosing a Name

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mathabah.org

Question:

We are soon to be blessed with a baby inshä’Allah. If it’s a girl we plan to name her Zayna or Eshaal. If it’s a boy we plan to name him Humaid, Shahzar, or Shaayaal. Please advise on the suitability, meaning and how the name should be written in Arabic/Urdu. Would highly appreciate your guidance at the earliest possible convenience since the baby is expected any time soon inshä’Allah. Thanks & Best Regards

Answer:

In the Name of God, Most Merciful, Most Compassionate

Among the names you have selected, for a boy Humayd / حميد which means ‘a small praiser’ is more suitable while for the girl the name Zaynah / زينة   which means ‘beautiful’ is more suitable.

And Allah Knows Best
