Forgiveness After an Abortion Ordeal

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mathabah.org

Question:

I have only one son. I aborted a child a few years back, as my husband did not agree on having a 2nd child. He gave me two options; abort the child or get divorced. He then took me to the hospital against my will and got this child aborted. I am always repenting to Allah for this sin; in fact I got a fatwa from a Mufti before the abortion. Kindly help me to make Allah happy. I recite the tasbeeh for seeking forgiveness every day.

Answer:

May Allah make this ordeal easy for you. Please keep in mind that as humans we all make mistakes and that Allah is Ever Forgiving to those who sincerely repent to Him. Since you have repented from this matter, keeping in mind that you were forced against your will to abort your child, you should have no doubt in your mind that in-sha-Allah you will be forgiven. Allah himself has proclaimed,

Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” [39:53]’.

In a Hadëth Al Qudsi Allah has stated,

“O son of Adam, as long as you call upon me and have hope in me I shall forgive you of all that you have committed and I do not care. O son of Adam, if your sins reach the heights of the sky and then you seek forgiveness from me, I shall forgive you and I do not care. O son of Adam, if you were to come to me with an earth load of sins and then met me in a state that you did not associate any partners with me, I will come to you with an earth load of forgiveness.” [Tirmidhë: 3540]

And Allah Knows Best.
