Question:

Du’ā Jamīlah – it is said that it is good to recite this du’ā during the month of Ramaḍān as its benefits are great. Is Du’ā Jamīlah authentic?

Answer:

In the Name of God, Most Merciful, Most Kind

Jazāk Allāh Khayr/ Thank you for your question.

In general, making du’ā is praiseworthy and a desired practice.

After checking multiple sources, kindly note that there is no authentic basis for the commonly known Du’ā Jamīlah. This cannot be attributed to the Prophet Muḥammad (peace and blessings upon him).

Even though the du’ā is not sourced from the Qurʾān or ḥadīth, after analyzing it, we can confirm that there is no harm in reciting it in general, as any other supplication is recited. However, believing that it is sunnah to recite or any special connection with Ramaḍān is not appropriate.

There are countless authentic du’ās and supplications recorded in both the Qur’ān and Ḥadīth. Those are the supplications preferred by the ‘Ulama and Islamic scholars. Prophetic du’ās are more powerful and easily accepted, since they are the direct words of the God and or His Prophet (peace and blessings upon him).

And Allāh Knows Best
