Respected mufti Saheb

In your Fatwaa no. 069/05 you mentioned the following “It is permissible for a Muslim to sell an item to a non-Muslim in an un-Islamic state or to accept a gift from him or to work for him in lieu of a wage even though his (non-Muslim’s) income is derived through unlawful means such as interest, gambling etc.”

Does this meant that working in a bank is also permissible?

Shukran

Answer:

The fatwa which you have indicated towards, it means that a Muslim can do permissible work for a non Muslim and gain his wage or the price of goods from him although the earnings of the non Muslim may be Haraam according to Islamic principles. It is not permissible for a Muslim to do Haraam work for a non Muslim. To give and take interest or assist in it is Haraam. So if a Muslim working in a bank is not directly involved with interest then it will be permissible to work in the bank. If heshe are directly involved with interest then it will be impermissible to work in the bank.
