Memorising 40 Ahaadith, etc

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Assalamualaikum
Jazakallah for giving this information. I would like to know something more about this explanation regarding ”memorizing of 40 Ahaadith” . Is it compulsory to mention Arabic text of any Hadith to make people understand in order to be regarded as scholar?

Regarding Zamzam water, The Prophet (SAWS) said: ” The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” Could you please send the Arabic text if possible.?

It was reported that when Ibne ‘Abbas ( May Allah be pleased with him) drank from the water of Zamzam, he said : O Allah, I ask you for beneficial knowledge, plentiful provision and healing from every disease.”  Could you please let me know about this Du’aa from which Ahaadith it was taken,  could you please also send the Arabic text of Du’aa ?

Wassalaam

 Memorizing of 40 Ahaadith”

Rasoolullah (S.A.W.) mentioned: “Whoever will preserve for my Ummah forty Ahaadith concerning important matters of their faith, Allah

Ta’ala will raise him on the Day of Judgment as a Faqeeh (scholar) and I will intercede on his behalf and stand witness in his favour.”

Majority of the Muhadditheen are of the opinion that the words “preserve for my Ummah” means to pass on forty Ahaadith to others even

though that person has not memorized it. (Mishkaat Vol. 1, Page 36, Mazaahir ul Haqq Vol.1 Page 263)

Answer:

1.      The commentators of Hadith have not made the memorization of the Arabic a condition. However it would be preferable to memorize the Arabic text, as in this manner one would be conveying the Ahaadeeth in its original text.

2.      “Maau Zamzam lima shuriba lahu”   (Ibne Majah, Page 220, Al-Hisnul Haseen, Page 285)

3.      When Ibne Abbas (R.A.) used to drink the water of Zamzam, he recited the following Du’aa: “Allahumma inni Asaluka ‘Ilman Nafi’aa wa Rizqan Waasi’aa wa Shifaa’an min Kulli Daa’.”  (“O Allah I ask you for beneficial knowledge, plentiful provision and healing from every disease.”)   (Al-Hisnul Haseen, Page 285)
