Question:
Assalamualaikum
Mufti Saheb
I hope that you are in the best of health.
I would like to ask whether you came across any mention in the books of Fiqh of the following:
Is it Mustahab when burying a female that the wooden plank are covered
from the head side first, and from the feet side first for males?
from the head side first, and from the feet side first for males?
Jazakallahu Khairan
Answer:
We have not come across any text of the jurists relating to the manner in which the planks should be placed in the grave. As a result, it would be incorrect to regard the method mentioned in your question as Mustahab, although there would be no harm in adopting it. One has the option of choosing any suitable method. The object is to create a barrier which will prevent the sand from falling onto the Mayyit.
And Allah Ta’ala knows best
