Question:
Q1-I heard that one Qiraat is equal to Mount Uhud, please clarify?
Answer:
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (R.A.) that the Prophet (S.A.W.) said: “Whosoever attends the funeral of a Muslim out of faith, hoping for reward from Allah and remains with it till the prayer is offered over it and the burial is completed, he will return with a reward of two Qiraats, each Qiraat is equivalent to Mount Uhud and whosoever offers his prayers over it and returns before its burial, he will return with one Qiraat.” (Mishkaat, Page 144)
In this Hadith the term Qiraat is taken to be in its terminological meaning and not its literal meaning which is 5 grains of barley (21.87 centigrams metric). The word Qiraat in this Hadith means a great amount or great heap of reward which is then interpreted with Mount Uhud. (Mazaahir-e-Haqq, Vol. 2, Page 110)
There is a possibility of any of the two abovementioned meanings of Qiraat being meant in the Hadith where it is mentioned that two Qiraats will be deducted daily from the reward of the one who keeps a dog as a pet.
