Calling an Aalim Qiblah, etc

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Is it permissible to call an Aalim a) Qiblah, b) Huzoor?

Answer:

  1. It is not permissible to call an Aalim Qiblah because Qiblah is generally to Baitullah.  (Fataawaa Rashidiyyah, Page 553)
  1. According to the dictionary, Hazrat is a term used to maintain respect, that is why it is permissible to call and Aalim Hazrat, since there is no prohibition in Shari’ah to give him such a name.  (Al-Qamoosul Waheed, Vol. 1, Page 350)

Our pious predecessors used to address each other in their respective categories with this title Hazrat.
