Accepting a Waleemah Invitation

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Mahmoodiyah

Question:

Q1-Zaid  invited me for Waleemah Da’wat through a friend, and he invited others through mail posted to there house i.e. invitation cards with there names written on the card, Zaid told my friend that he forgot to write a invitation card on my name, even though there’s couple of days left for the Waleemah, I don’t feel its right for me to go because he has not invited me properly so what does Shari’ah say is it compulsory for me to attend the Waleemah given the above reason?

Q2-Will I be sinful for not attending the Waleemah Da’wat because of the above reason?

Answer:

Actually, one should accept the invitation to partake of Da’wat when it is given.  One opinion with regards to an invitation to a Waleemah is that it is Waajib to accept.  The invitation reached you even though it did not reach you as it reached your friends and the host himself apologised for this, so it is for this reason that it is incorrect for you not to attend the Da’wat.  Pain in the heart will be caused by you not attending the Da’wat.  To atone for this you will have to apologise to the host and if possible a gift should be presented to him and you must repent for not fulfilling a Shar’i ruling.
