Zakah on Jewellery

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Is Zakāh obligatory on all forms of jewellery?

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

Zakāh is obligatory on all forms of gold and silver whether it is for personal use or otherwise (al-Durr al-Mukhtār, 2: 273). Once the Prophet ﷺ said to a woman who had not offered Zakāh for two gold necklaces: “Does it please you that Allāh will make you wear two bracelets of fire in lieu of them?” (Sunan Abū Dāwūd, 1563). However, there is no Zakāh on diamonds, rubies or pearls, unless they are for business purposes. (al-Durr al-Mukhtār, 2: 273; al-Mabsūṭ, 2: 211-3).
