Virtues of Reciting Surah al-Kahf on Friday

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

What is the ruling on reciting Sūrah al-Kahf on Friday?

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

To recite Sūrah al-Kahf on Friday is highly desirable and has been the general practice of Muslims. Scholars have affirmed it should be recited on Friday and generally as well (Rūḥ al-Maʿānī, 8: 190). The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said, “Verily, whosoever recites Sūrah al-Kahf on Friday, light will shine for him between the two Fridays” (al-Mustadrak, 3392). Similarly, the Prophet ﷺ said, “Whosoever memorises ten verses from the beginning of Sūrah Kahf will be protected from Dajjāl (antichrist)” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 809). Scholars explain that just as the cavemen mentioned in the Sūrah were saved from the tyrant king of their time, reciting this Sūrah will safeguard a believer from Dajjāl, as well as the evil men and oppressive rulers of all times (al-Kawkab al-Durrī, 4: 14).
