Collective Quran recitation after death

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Is it Sunnah to organise gatherings of the recitation of the Qurʾān after someone passes away or is it better to recite individually?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم

Answer

It is better to recite the Qurʾān individually. It is not Sunnah to organise gatherings of the recitation of the Qurʾān after someone’s demise. However, if this is done without it being regarded necessary or Sunnah and without it becoming customary, then it is permissible.
