Authenticity of Rajab is Allah’s month narration

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by IslamicPortal.co.uk

Is the following narration “Rajab is Allah’s month, Shaʿbān is my month, and Ramaḍān is my nation’s month” authentic as it is commonly circulated?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Answer

Imam Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal (d. 241/855) categorised this narration as munkar (unknown)[1] and subsequently ḥadīth experts have regarded this narration as fabricated.[2]
