Giving water to drink

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Giving water to drink where water is available is equal to freeing a slave and where water isn’t available it is equal to reviving a dead

Is this a Hadith?

Answer

This Hadith is recorded on the authority of Sayyidatuna ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu’anha) with various chains, all of which are weak or very weak.

Although the combination of these chains do lend strength to the narration, it will still be classified as weak, but suitable to practice upon. Therefore ‘Allamah Mundhiri (rahimahullah) included it in his book; Targhib.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2474, Misbahuz Zujajah, Hadith: 876, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.3 pg.133 (4792 and 4795) , Kanzul ‘Ummal, Hadith: 16383 and 16386, La-alil Masnu’ah, vol.2 pg.85 and Targhib, vol.2 pg.75-76)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
