Ibn ‘Umar’s (radiyallahu’anhuma) way of reprimanding a misdeed

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I wanted to know the reference and mainly the authenticity of the following narration.

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar used to throw small stones to those who were not practicing raising of the hands in Salah before ruku’ and after ruku’.

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has authentically recorded this in his book on Ra’ul Yadayn, Hadith: 14. Also see Musnadul Humaydi, Hadith: 615.

This is a known practice of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) that he would throw pebbles to draw the attention of some who needed to be advised of his misdeed.

See another such example in Fathul Bari, Hadith: 664.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
